Let me cut straight to the point – no matter how hard you try, no matter what you do, no matter how many tears fall down your face, you cannot make New Year perfect. So, if you are here for hundreds of tips on staying positive and reaching for the stars, well, you may be in for a completely different treat.
You see, I want to talk about something that bothers me a bit more this year than it usually does; something that has kept me up for few nights now and something that I simply cannot shake off myself; it has stuck to me with some sort of fiddly-diddly metaphorical glue and it stuck well. What am I talking about? You really don’t know? Come on. We’ve all been there. We’re all still there, but some of us are slightly better at denial than others.
As soon as the New Year hits, so does this sort of… longing for some unattainable perfection and it starves us to the bone. We remind ourselves of all the things that need to change and all the things we hate about ourselves, start making lists and plans, and before we realize it, we are under insane amount of pressure that we really, I mean REALLY don’t need.
And I am cracking. I am telling you.
Soon, all of this fades out and we are back to our old, boring selves; but these first few weeks can be detrimental to our overall condition. Slowly soothing back to normal takes time we often don’t have anyway – and if we are under actual pressure at the time and we cannot take a break from it, well, it may not be as easy as it sounds. Well, it may be borderline impossible.
